- Do you live and breath yoga?
- Is yoga is a part of who you are?

- Do you look well below the surface …
- Into deeper realities, sciences & meanings?
- OR …
- Are you just getting into yoga, but want a GREAT Head Start?
Well if so, … then here you are. … and here you go:
This page will be your guide for getting to know the basics of how DSL Let-Go Yoga™, and yoga in general, works, and what it will do for you. Yes, there is a lot here, and some of it is a bit technical. But this website is for those of you who want to really dig deep into how yoga and the human body actually work.
After spending some time here in these web pages, you will have …
A Superior, In-Depth Knowledge of
the Workings of the Human BodyMind
Facts & Insights that are RELEVANT to Physical/Mental & Therapeutic Yoga
And No, This is NOT Just a Re-Hash of Old Ideas
Like my LIVE Trainings, this site will NOT be just a rehash or restatement of old ideas told in new ways or with slight twists and tweaks, or nicer pictures. In fact, if nicer pictures or fancy artwork are your thing, this is not the place. And if you are looking for Pretzel Yoga, it ain't here. (Although many people have told me they are able to get far deeper into their postures, with less stress and strain, and more safely, with my methods. So it WILL help your Pretzel Yoga, if you want it to.)
What I will have here is very informative text, illustrations and animations, and some audio/video. But I'm by no means an artist or hi-tech video producer … not yet anyway. (But like the Samurai Swordsman of old, art might someday become part of my yoga.) Right now, though, we'll have to settle for quality of unique and useful information.
Yes, some of it will be somewhat technical, but it will be information helping you be a better practitioner and teacher of yoga, and/or a yoga therapist. If the really technical aspects of yoga, and the sciences behind them, do not really interest you, if you just want to feel and meditate your way through, hoping you will just Get It, and not think too much about what you're doing, then this is probably not the website for you. … You will not get this stuff by osmosis or prayer.
My Vision . . . is that you'll be able to sit down with a Neurologist, Orthopedic Surgeon, Chiropractor or Physical Therapist, and they will KNOW that you know as much as they do when it comes to applying well-accepted health care sciences to the field of yoga and yoga therapeutics, or stretching if you prefer to call it that when speaking with certain people.
No, you won't, of course, know anywhere near everything they know. But when it comes to Yoga and many related practices, you'll know the relevant sciences, possibly better than they do, and a few things they don't. And I am not talking about the kind of so-called "science" that will make them roll their eyes and think "woo-woo."* Much of this is stuff they will think back and remember from medical school.
(*Woo-woo is okay in certain settings and for certain people, but not when trying to convince most doctors about how such things work. And you'll find none of the mystical stuff here on this site.)
My Vision . . . also is that you'll be able to speak with anyone, or a group of people, and they will quickly realize that you ARE an expert, and that you really know what you are talking about. Becaue you speak to where they are at as unique human beings living in our particular civilization, you will be more likely to inspire them to understanding and taking action than others.
My Vision . . . is even more so that when people study with you — your Students and Clients — they will be learning skills, insight and information very different than what most people are doing and teaching. … And they will feel positive results like they have not felt before. … And YOU will become a Leader in the field of physical/mental Yoga and (if you want) Yoga Therapy.
Yes, it will take some investment of your brainpower, maybe even a lot of it. But if you make the investment, you will know how things REALLY work, rather than much of the Mythology that is popular today. Rather than rely on the conclusions of others, you'll be able to think through for yourself how the principles and sciences work in each yoga posture and many of the challenges your students will encounter.
Yet, even if you do not want to know things at that level of depth, you will still find much in these pages that can help you be a better Yoga Educator and/or Yoga Therapist. It will especially help you prevent yoga and exercise related injuries in your students.
Yes, it takes sustained mental power, just like the most prolific ancient and modern yoga scholars from the East and West who have extensive scientific and philosophical knowledge, and are rational enough thinkers to turn out huge amounts of high quality, written material. They have mastered the balance between the rational and non-rational modes of mind. They might prefer to spend lots of time in the non-rational, but they know and practice the value of both.
(And always remember, the NON-rational is not at all the same as IR-rational.)
And if you are interested in but not yet that good at the realm of rational thought, studying what you are passionate about is a good place to learn how to develop and balance your rational and non-rational self.

Here are a Mission Statement and Summary of 12 Basic Concepts describing much of what DSL Yoga & Let-Go Yoga is all about.
The 9 Natural Laws of Yoga
The 9 Natural Laws of Yoga will establish a basis for why one should do, and how one should approach, doing yoga. And the basis I work from fits right in with the wants and needs of people in Western Civilization. Because at its foundation, yoga is a human phenomena, not necessarily an Eastern practice. People are not at all required to adapt foreign practices to use and benefit from yoga. It's not even necessarily a good idea. Yes, there are certain things that can be learned from the Essential Insights from the East. But we do not have to convert our belief systems to conform to their way of life. Nor do we need to adapt the aesthetic or cultural overlays that some people mistake for the core elements of yoga.
C.E.M.&.N.T.
(Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension)
The Central, Organizing Principle of DSL Let-Go Yoga … is dealing with Muscle Tension, and all the factors contributing to it, associated with it, and resulting from it. Psycho-Neuro-Muscular Contraction & Relaxation is the mechanism by which we express ourselves into the world, and how our major organs function. It is the Nexus at which many of the factors of Being Human converge into one point.
This Nexus can serve as a primary Point-of-Focus for Your Physical Yoga, as well as the place where Mental Yoga — the Meditative Mind – merges with your physical body.

21 Reasons You Want & Need DSL Let-Go Yoga
Here are 21 Reasons yoga is good for anyone. While this list is more for those who are not yet convinced of the value of yoga, it could be good for even yoga teachers and stretching coaches to review it.
CORE Concepts & Principles of DSL Yoga
There are a handful of CORE Principles that DSL Let-Go Yoga is based on. Several of them originated with Joel Kramer, who some acknowledge as the First American Yoga Master. Check these principles out to discover what makes effective yoga really work.
Yoga Injuries
The Injury Rate in yoga related practices has been on a dramatic increase in recent years. There are several reasons for this. Yet the most often sited reason — improper alignment in a posture — is relatively low on the list compared to other factors. In fact, the opposite is more likely true. It is, among other factors, the excessive push to make, coerce, or force people get into so called Proper Alignment that is causing so many problems, and sometimes injury. But that's just one factor among several others. In short, many people, including yoga teachers, are pushing too fast, too deep, too intensely into their yoga postures. Being less deep, with less intensity, for longer periods of time, and not attempting to force so-called Proper Alignment, will go a long way to reducing injury.
10 Principles of Maximizing Results & Minimizing Injury
Over the years, I have developed a series of Principles of Yoga Practice that, if followed, do MUCH to keep you and your students out of trouble. Yet the very same principles do much to enhance and maximize the positive results from yoga, as well.
The TOOLS of DSL Let-Go Yoga & DSL EdgeWork
There is a large handful of "tools" that DSL uses in the Big Picture of Health, Fitness, Therapeutics and Preventive Maintenance. Learn about them here.
Preventive Yoga Therapeutics
The Question often comes up: Are yoga teachers qualified to offer therapeutic work with their Students and Clients? I say absolutely YES, but only up to a point, and here's the what and the why, as well as how to work with the limitations.
Yoga-based, Hands-on, bio-Structural Bodywork
Sometimes, yogic stretching will not release certain tensions within the bodymind. This can be due to trauma or extreme stresses the body or mind has experienced or endured. If the causes are psycho-emotional in nature, psychotherapeutic interventions might be necessary. Often, however, it is neuromuscular / myofascial units have become too desensitized or in other ways discombobulated (Yes, that really is a word!) and less functional, sometimes MUCH less able to perform their job. Often, manual pressure within the belly of the muscle is the best, possibly only, way to get a muscle to unlock.
The DSL approach to bodywork is to use the principles of Yoga and Let-Go Yoga, and the Yogic Medicine principles, in the hands-on process. In fact, DSL Edgework, the bodywork system, is based, from the ground up, on yogic principles.
BodyMind Dynamics: Yoga Sciences
My Objective is to help yoga teachers, or anyone using yoga (or conscious stretching) for health, fitness or therapy, to be able to explain the whole range of yoga principles to a medical, chiropractic or osteopathic physician in terms the doctor (or a physical or occupational therapist) can relate to. In fact, properly presented, for a physician to deny the efficacy of yoga would require denying many of the very facts from the research their very own health care systems are founded upon.
Other than going direct to the grass-roots, The People themselves, working with Doctors can help get Yoga into the hands of more people who really need it, and otherwise would probably not even consider its use. The challenge, of course, is effectively educating and informing doctors in how to understand and utilize the principles of physical, mental and therapeutic yoga in their practices, and with their patients.
More importantly, the more one understands the underlying sciences, the more she or he can figure out the best postures, best practices, best ways of doing things, and what student should be doing what postures.
