Are YOU The Kind of Person Who'll Benefit
The Most From
DSL Let-Go Yoga?

Is Your Style of Learning Compatible with the DSL Approach?

It is important to me — and to YOU — that everyone has the best experience possible with my FUNdamentals of Yoga and Let-Go Yoga. I want people for whom my work will be a major contribution to their knowledge, skills and abilities. … And their professional reputations.

And yes, for some people, DSL programs have been a life changing process.

NOTE TO GENERAL PUBLIC: Because I deal mostly with Little-Known but Vital Basics in my beginning courses for The Public, I do not have a corresponding page for you. BUT you don't have to be THIS committed to learn the FUNdamentals of Yoga and Let-Go Yoga. However, this page could give you a better idea how I think. — DSL

However, I admit, DSL is not for everyone.

Some people are not all that interested in areas necessary to greatly benefit from DSL Yoga. They have different orientations, and have other ways of contributing to people. These differences are as it should be, and a part of Human Nature. Although I think nearly everyone would benefit to some degree, I know none of us can be just right for everyone. As they say, you cannot please everyone. — (I tried for many years, but finally gave up on that. It's a good way to make you crazy!)

On the other hand, many people have commented that DSL Yoga (and bodywork, and of other things I teach) is open-ended. It does not require you do things in any particular way. I only teach principles, fundamentals and sciences that are universal to all human beings and are pretty hard to refute as far as how the body and mind work. Except for some of the more extreme mystical beliefs, it really does not matter much what you believe, as long as you believe there are things science can prove with a high degree of certainty. Therefore, regardless of the systems you already use, DSL trainings should AT LEAST contribute to, if not greatly enhance, how you already do your work.

Others find that it COMPLETELY transforms how they work with, do and teach yoga.

No Clones, No Followers, No Disciples, Please

I am not looking to create a bunch of DSL Clones. I don't want to start an ashram or have a bunch of followers. If you WANT to work the way I do, great. If you WANT to spend a lot of time studying with me, great. But I know of too many of the well-known training systems out there that have tried to control — and then lost control over — what their students were doing and teaching.

Yet if you are attempting to go with the flow of nature and human nature, and the highest good for all people, it really does not make any sense to try and control anyone anyway. Human Beings are designed to differentiate, some of us more than others. Some of us are explorers and innovators while more of us prefer the security of doing the day-to-day work our society needs. But to stand in the way of the innovators goes against the grain of human development. If you take my work and expand or improve upon it, or mix it with other practices, then that's good for humanity.

We Are Unique, Specialized Human Beings
and Can Not, Should Not, Be Controlled

And I believe we are unique, specialized individuals first, then members of a group second. The most effective groups have very well-defined, self-actualizing individuals cooperatively participating with each other, but NOT forcing each other to conform.

You are, of course, free to pick and choose what works, and what does not, once you have learned the DSL FUNdamentals. All I ask is that you really understand them before you pass judgment on them.

And PLEASE . . .
don't tell people you are doing things The DSL Way unless you actually ARE.

Anyway, over the years, I have found certain characteristics of Clients and Students that create a higher likelihood they will benefit from studying DSL Let-Go Yoga or any of my other programs. You don't need ALL of these characteristics, just enough that you and I, and your co-Students, are on the same page.

Some of These Characteristics Are:

1. You Are, or are planning to be, ONE or More of the following:

  • A Yoga Teacher ready to move to your Next Level of perspectives, knowledge & techniques of physical, mental and relational yoga; based on a highly scientific and experiential, intuitive foundation.
  • A Yoga Therapist ready for state-of-the-art, therapeutic applications of yoga for resolution of challenges with posture, movement, pain and dysfunction.
  • A Massage or Bodywork Therapist wanting to integrate yoga for your own needs and/or your Client's needs.
  • A Physical or Occupational Therapist looking into Body/Mind oriented modalities, and going more deeply into how the physical aspects of the bodymind works, especially working with structural, neuromuscular and myofascial issues.
  • A Fitness or Pilates Coach wanting to integrate Conscious Stretching (a Code Name for physical/mental Yoga) into your repertoire.
  • A Medical, Osteopathic, Chiropractic or Naturaopathic Physician ready to — or supervise therapists who – utilize techniques to help your Patients reduce their Chronic, Excess, Muscle & Nerve Tension, not to mention understanding the implications of such, such as alleviation of symptoms and syndromes.
  • Other Health Care Professionals – who are very interested in BodyMind processes and healing. This includes psychotherapists and psychiatrists who want to understand the more physical aspects of their Patients and Clients.

In short, you REALLY want to learn Yoga at a professional, in-depth, and wide-ranging level.

2. Committed to Serving and Helping People. – It's more than just an interest or a job for you. Physical/ Mental/ Relational Yoga is — or is a significant part of — Who You Are. … You Live & Breath this stuff. … Or you suspect that you are headed in that direction.

3. Independent, Open Minded & Evolutionary Thinker You are more interested in What Works rather than being overly attached to particular ways of doing things. … You use traditional approaches as a spring-board to innovation and new ideas, rather than attachment to tradition for tradition's sake. … Your intellectual, spiritual and philosophical interests are Self-Generated, rather than following someone else. Teachers are great and useful, even necessary in some cases, but YOU are ultimately responsible for your growth and development. … And YOU are willing to be on the Leading Edge of a New Paradigm of doing what appear to be old things.

4. Yet Cooperative & Communicative – You know how to, and like, getting along with people at a deeper level than is usual in today's society. Your ideas, appreciation for, and abilities (or desire for such) of interaction and communication goes deeper than most. You know that research is, in many cases, a collaborative process.

5. Integration of Thinking, Feeling, Meditating & Action – You are interested in, and committed to, merging of the rational/intellectual and feeling/intuitive states as necessary and useful equals; not one better or more important than the other. You are comfortable with Analytical (etymological meaning: to loosen apart) as well as Meditative states. If not, you are willing to discover how. … And you also know that what happens inside of you, if not expressed into the world through some kind of Effective Action, has little, if any, chance of helping anyone.

6. (At Least Somewhat) Scientifically Oriented – You are truly interested in anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, neurology, pathology and other physical sciences in general (even physics and geometry), and how the body and mind really work — and in great depth. You might not consider yourself good at, or knowledgeable about, these sciences, yet you at least see the value, and are ready and want to learn. … You DO NOT believe PRIMARILY in Magic or Mysticism. … Yes, we might someday find that there are paranormal experiences more widely available to human beings. There are those who at least appear to have ability to project thoughts or power outside of their body. We might soon find hard evidence of subtle energies emanating from our bodyminds. … Yet if so, these are not yet well enough developed for most people to rely on as primary tools of health and healing. A positive attitude and good vibes can definitely help, but we are going to start with the sciences. … If this does not describe you, it might be very difficult for you to study the sciences with enough interest to really learn the more technical aspects of DSL. If you are not sure about this, Please Contact Me. We can discuss it and see if there is a fit, or not.

7. Western Psycho-Philosophical-Spiritual Tradition – You realize that for most people in the Western World — your potential and existing Students & Clients — to relate to yoga, it must be delivered in ways they can relate to and resonate with. You also realize that regardless of who actually discovered it, yoga is primarily a HUMAN endeavor, not an exclusively Eastern, Hindu, or Indian endeavor. You are willing to study yoga in a Western, yet no less conscious, context. DSL Yoga uses the Western Perspective, and the Scientific Method, to examine the workings of the human bodymind. Yet we look at, study and incorporate the most Essential Insights from the East, including various here-and-now approaches to Consciousness.

8. Not Afraid of Controversy – You know that new things are discovered all the time, things that sometimes contradict what everyone "knows" to be true; that a lot of old ideas are found to be obsolete, or were never even true in the first place. You don't mind having to explain to people — even if it takes many tries to get the message across — why things they've been doing, though widely accepted as truth by very educated and experienced people, might not be correct, and possibly dangerous.

9. Not In TOO Big A Hurry – You realize that teaching and working with the bodymind of other human beings, and your own, is a Big Responsibility. And some things just cannot be figured out or learned in a weekend workshop or three. It might take months or years to really GET — to really MASTER — something. Some very knowledgeable and experienced people say it takes 5,000 hours to really learn advanced skills. 10,000 to be a Total Master. Yet if you see the benefit, you will invest the time and resources necessary to master and incorporate new ideas and skills. … But don't worry … Most people say they are able to immediately apply much of what they learn in a DSL Seminar or Workshop.

10. Responsible Self-Interest – You realize that YOU must ultimately take care of yourself, that the most important things in life are your responsibility. You cannot pay someone to do yoga for you, or eat well for you, either. And yet certain things work better if you have the resources — material and non-material — necessary to put your ideas, needs and desires into action. Yes, cooperation with many other people is vital to a well-rounded Human Life, but we must also learn to take care of ourselves so we can take care of others.

Okay. That's a pretty big list. If this at least partially describes you, it's time to visit the START Pages on how DSL Yoga & Let-Go Yoga works. If you are not sure, send me an e-mail, or call, and we can talk about whether my programs are on the Right Path for you.
